The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has created an app to assist health
care providers when offering guidance to their
patients about contraceptive method and use
while considering specific medical conditions.
The app functions as a reference tool that
combines information from the U.S. Medical
Eligibility Criteria (US MEC) for Contraceptive Use and the U.S. Selected Practice Recommendations (US SPR) for Contraceptive
Use. Users can search the US MEC to view
recommendations for the safe use of contraceptive methods for those with a specific medical
condition, such as multiple sclerosis, migraine
headache or HIV. Users also can reference the
US SPR for recommendations related to the use
of contraceptives, including initiation, regular
follow-up and potential issues that might arise
The app is free and available for both iOS
( http://apple.co/2sy8LUT) and Android
( http://bit.ly/2qISNGT) devices.
For more information about the app and to
access other downloads and resources, visit the
CDC website at http://bit.ly/2qKOKx T.
If you would like to share a first-hand experience
using technology, such as software, program, app,
widget, etc., to improve patient care or practice
management, email submissions of 250 words or
less to Cathleen Guch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
